Working together to Remove Pests
Allowing Banks Peninsula to thrive
Our goal is to free Banks Peninsula / Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū from animal pests by 2050 through a community led, agency supported, pest control programme.
With the Peninsula (including the Port Hills) bordering greater Christchurch, it provides the opportunity for both urban and rural residents to be involved in restoring this unique environment.
In 2050, a cacophony of native birdsong resounds across the Peninsula.
Indigenous plant and animal species thrive, and the Peninsula is a taonga for us all to enjoy.
Community Led, Agency Supported…
The community is at the heart of the success of the project.
Without the buy in and collaboration with the residents & ratepayers, the project will not succeed.
The Vision
Our native plants, birds, animals and insects will flourish, free from the threats of introduced animal pests.
Our Plans & Actions
Pest Free Banks Peninsula have two large landscape projects: Kaitōrete and the ‘Extended Wildside’ of Banks Peninsula.
